Be a part of the largest fundraising event in Hampton Roads, Give Local 757!
Three local Community Foundations have come together in an unprecedented partnership to host the 3rd annual Give Local 757 event. The Hampton Roads, Peninsula and Southeast Virginia Community Foundations are joining forces with a goal of raising 1 million dollars in 24 hours for over 200+ local nonprofits on May 3, 2016. Last year, Give Local 757 had notable success, raising $430,000 in 24 hours for 155 nonprofits. Over 4,000 donations were received from every state in the country and from as far away as Hong Kong. This year, ourselves, along with our partners, hope to hit a million dollars.
Local businesses are stepping up in a big way to support the event. WVEC Channel 13, Sinclair Communications (owner of six radio stations), The Daily Press, The Virginian Pilot, and Adams Outdoor Advertising have come on board to help promote the event. Bank of America contributed $10,000 for the grand prizes and Langley Federal Credit Union has made each of their branches donation sites now through the day of the event for those who wish to donate by check. A total of $45,000 has been raised for the incentive prize pool which will amplify what donations are made on the day of the event.
Give Local 757 was initially born out of Give Local America, an initiative created by the Council on Foundations to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the first community foundation. Hundreds of communities from across the country have participated the last two years and over $110 million raised during the 24 hour event. According to Giving USA, which tracks charitable giving in the United States, Americans donated an estimated $358.38 Billion to charity in 2014, the highest total in the Report’s 60-year history. Online giving is the fastest growing platform in philanthropy and has greatly contributed to the increase.
How It Works
For 24 hours, beginning at midnight on May 3rd, everyone can be a philanthropist by logging on to www.GiveLocal757.org through their smart phone or computer and make a small or large financial donation to one or more of their favorite groups. Donors can also donate at any Langley Federal Credit Union branch to registered Give Local 757 nonprofits.
