Proud to serve SEVACF & Hampton Roads

Like all community foundations, we are overseen by a volunteer board of leading citizens and run by professionals who know our community’s needs. We go beyond simply making grants that advance charitable activities; we also identify current and emerging issues, stimulate resources to address those needs, and help Southeast Virginia prepare for the future.

Richard E. H. Wentz

Richard E. H. Wentz, a Portsmouth native, holds a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies from the University of Richmond and a Master’s in Education Administration from Old Dominion University. He began his career as a teacher and coach at New Kent County High School in 1984. In 1990, he joined the YMCA of Portsmouth, where he served for 30 years, including 10 as Associate Executive Director and 20 as Executive Director. Richard has held leadership roles on several nonprofit boards, including serving as Board President for the Rotary Club of Portsmouth, Portsmouth General Hospital Foundation, Portsmouth Museums Foundation, Portsmouth Sports Club, Hoffler Creek Wildlife Foundation, and Southeast Virginia Community Foundation. Named First Citizen of Portsmouth in 2013, he remains active in the community.

Carrie Reid

Since moving to the Hampton Roads area in 2003, Carrie Reid has truly embraced the community, thanks to her military upbringing with a father stationed at Naval Station Little Creek. In 2012, she proudly bought her home in Chesapeake, making a lasting commitment to the area. Joining our foundation in November 2019, Carrie’s dedication and talent led her to become our Director of Operations. Before this role, she cherished her time as a stay-at-home mom and actively volunteered at her son’s school.
