Creating a fund with the Southeast Virginia Community Foundation is one of the easiest ways to establish your philanthropic legacy. It allows you to give back to our community now and in the future. To create a fund with us, you will want to consider the following:

When to give
Create your fund now, establish it with your will, or create it through a trust agreement that benefits your family as well as charity. You may give in honor of or in memory of someone. Tax deductions are earned at the time of your gift, while grants awarded from the fund can continue into the future.

What to give
Almost any kind of asset can be used to start your fund. We can also discuss other options with you, such as bequests, charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, pooled income funds, and life income.

A name for your fund
You choose the name. Every grant from the fund will carry this name. Or, you may choose to give anonymously.

Type of fund
We offer a variety of funds that are flexible to meet your charitable interests. Once you have decided on which type of fund you would like to establish, please contact us to discuss the necessary steps in following through. If you’re unsure of what type of fund you wish to create, we would be happy to talk to you and any of your advisors about your options.

If you would like to make a bequest or deferred gift, we can go that process with you as well. Be sure to discuss with us the type of fund you are interested in, so that we may help you ensure that the correct language is included in your will.
